While researching the origins and effects of negative perfectionism, I came across a number of interesting ways to begin to combat it. I began an experiment with a rigid set of rules in hopes of conquering my fear of showing my personal work, as well as developing actionable skills to break perfectionism and conquer procrastination. This series of 10 posters required me to journal in a stream-of-conscious style for 15 minutes, then immediately begin creating a poster with a strict 60 minute time limit. Writing from the journaling session was required to be used in the poster, with at least one phrase acting as the hero text. I found manipulating scans of my journal to be very inspiring and led to a lot of work that I felt proud of. The final part of the experiment was to share each poster to Instagram, no matter how I felt about the outcome. This experiment entirely restarted my love for making art for myself, outside of school projects, and it continues to fuel my creativity today.
